QRP ARCI member rescued thanks to ham radio
Cascade Mountains, WA. Photo | Kati GarnerRuss Ruby W7AU (QRP ARCI #13127) was rescued after breaking his leg in the Cascade Mountains, WA.

Russ slipped and was injured near Buck Creek Pass on 21 September 2008. He had the presence of mind to set up his tent and change into warm clothing before calling for help on 40m CW using his Elecraft K1 transceiver.

His signal was heard 600 miles away in Bozeman, Montana by Bob Williams N7ODM. Details were passed to local authorities but Russ had to spend the night in the wilderness before being evacuated from the site at 10.30am the following day.
