Waterproof logbooks
Waterproof logbook in the fieldOperating in the great outdoors is fun. Even in winter events like FYBO and the Polar Bears PBMME see dozens of hams braving the elements and trying to master CW with frozen fingers. But how do you log those contacts when it's raining ? Ever tried writing in a notebook that's turning into mush ?

Well, Andrew Kabasakalian WB2WZC has the answer. At QRP ARCI we have tested his waterproof logbooks in pouring rain - they work ! Simple as that.

Waterproof logbookI’m Andy Kabasakalian and have been an active amateur radio operator for 33 years. I’ve logged many contacts over those years as WB2WZC and have many happy and downright exciting memories captured in a paper log book. I look back in awe of some of my QRP contacts, and enjoy seeing the call signs and names of hams from many nations. It’s exciting to revisit distant times and places and refresh the memories of contacts that have become less vivid over time.

Unfortunately through the years there have been some log books destroyed due to water damage, improper storage, spilt coffee, boating accidents, mountain topping in the pouring rain and savaging by family pets and shifting computers and operating systems. I worked hard for those contacts and hate to lose any. There’s a lot of history in those pages, both of a purely personal nature and those chronicling the world events of the times. Amateur radio operators provide community service during disasters of all magnitudes. Recent times have provided us with plenty of opportunities to help others. Stay in this hobby long enough and you’ll be amazed at what historic events you’ve been connected with.

Waterproof logbook in useMy passion has been amateur radio but my career has been in the printing industry. You already know how strongly I feel about logging contacts. After a thorough drenching during a QRPing Mis-adventure which destroyed my conventional paper log book, I set out to solve the “soggy log” dilemma. I wanted a log book which could stand up to anything Mother Nature could fling at it. That ardent desire led to the the production of all weather log books by my company, ASA, Inc.

The result is a log book that is:

  • totally waterproof
  • tear resistant
  • perfect for long term storage in less than ideal conditions
  • easy to use
  • stain resistant
  • tolerate extremes in temperature and humidity
  • easily portable and packable
  • abrasion resistant
  • ideal for maritime use
  • has rustproof spiral bindings
  • floats
  • can be written on underwater or in freezing temperatures

This latest advance in hard copy logging is available in two formats. The top bound version, item #ARLB5 provides seven entries per page. The side bound book, item #ARLB3, logs three in-depth entries per page. Two Additional Formats are already going into production and will be available soon.
