New BoD Members - W5JAY and VE3JC
Written by Dick Pascoe, G0BPS
The new members of the Board of Directors took their 'seats' on the 1st April. It was no joke that we have two superb new members who will enhance the already existing members.

Together with Hank K8DD who was re-elected, their period of office is for four years and runs until 31st March 2010. The other three members of the BOD, Bill N8ET, Ed W1RFI and Mike KO4WX all end their terms on 31st March 2008.

The position of President will also be up for election by the BOD early in 2007 when my own term of office comes to an end.

  • VE3JC John Cumming was first licensed as VE3KGL in 1978 and received his Canadian Advanced license a year later. He has held the call VE3JC since 1996.

John's primary radio interests are HF CW operation, and kit / homebrew construction. He operates HF QRP mobile (CW and SSB) from his mountain bike, and enjoys QRP "to the field" contesting. John is a member of QRP ARCI, Bicycle Mobile Hams of America, and various other ham organizations. He has written a number of articles for the QRP Quarterly and ARS Sojourner, on topics ranging from bicycle mobiling to the history of adventure radio. John also enjoys Kayaking, Canoeing and Backpacking.

After working in the Social Work field for seven years, John's interest in technology and radio motivated him to return to University to study Electrical Engineering. He has been employed with Hydro One, Ontario's electricity transmission grid company, for 18 years. John lives in London, Ontario with his wife Jane. They have four grown children, and one grandson.

  • W5JAY Jay Bromley W5JAY has been involved with QRP for more than 10 years. The focus of his activity has been in his home town in Arkansas where he and the Fort Smith QRP Group laid on the well regarded QRP convention "Arkiecon" for 5 years. The group has an active social calendar and has assembled many hundreds, probably thousands of kits to provide QRP fun across the nation and in other countries. Jay would bring a wealth of experience to the board.

Jay is employed in the cellular industry and aside from home construction, he is interested in Hi-Fidelity AM/SSB, RTTY, and various data modes. Jay also enjoys DXing and contesting.
