No this isn't an article about some shady dating agency for the inadequate. But it is an introduction to a company who can build a modern day kit to professional standards. Kit Builders was founded by Mike WA6OUW and counts AmQRP, Small Wonder Labs and KangaUS amongst his customers. Read more to find out what Mike had to say -

Image I started my “Kit Builders” solder and assembly service in 1983, after helping my QRP friends with their electronic kits. Everyone knows how to solder until they try to install the first part. It turns out that most people can’t solder, are lacking the right equipment or hate to bother with it. Today, I am soldering for AMQRP, Small Wonder Labs, Kanga US and literally hundreds of kit builders.

Image Today with the help of the Internet, my assembly service is used around the world by individual electronic enthusiasts, clubs and companies who desire quality soldering or assembly work, while enjoying the convenience of using their email and post office. At present, this service offers soldering and assembly using surface mount or thru-hole components for individual kits, limited production, first article assembly, engineering development and rework, with the primary focus being printed circuit card assemblies.

Image When requesting prices or individual quotes, all numbers include shipping and most kits are assembled and returned in 2-3 days. Because of so many electronic designs, kits and levels of assembly, Kit Builders offers a unique approach to quoting, for soldering one part, a selection of parts or the entire assembly.

A great soldering job is more than just heating up the tip and making things flow. It’s the right temperature for the perfect PCB pad/part connection. It’s using a proven recipe of solder, flux and temperature for the desired result. Its understanding that a larger area needing solder such as an expanded ground plane may require a change in temperature for a longer period of time before experiencing any solder flow. Its knowing which style soldering tip to use when calling for surface mount IC’s with leg spacing of 50 thousands. It’s recognizing the thickness of pads and soldered locations of material where some needed rework could be tricky. Also in smaller surface mount IC package designs, repeated heat to legs for the purpose of solder flow can cause the actual legs coming out to move or change spacing when matched up to pads on the PCB.

Thanks for your time, 73’s and best regards
