I am david W saylors
I am ARS: WK4DSon the web at:
www.saylorsmachine.com

I have been a machinist for 10 years and have been a ham for
three years. I have operated CW almost exclusively for that time and
just got my 50th QSL card, confirming that I have worked all fifty
states with CW. Now I have to do it QRP!!
The
paddles come from my love of CW and my love of machine tool work. I
have wanted a nice paddle key ever since I got licensed but have not
had time to build one until recently.

I
decided to design it with CAD software do I could work out all the in's
and out's on the computer instead on trying to build a bunch of non
functional keys. These keys have a ratio close to 1:1 for good
operation and have the following features available on them.

Gold plated contacts
Micrometer adjustments in either 40 or 56 threads per inch
lock nut construction - once it is set, it will stay set.

They are heavy - the lighter single lever paddle weighs in at 2.625 lbs.
They have low mass arms for a low inertia which allows the arms to not
bounce on the return stroke
They have thumbscrews on the paddle handles to allow height adjustment
from nearly touching the table to several inches above the surface so anybody can use it.
They use magnetic springs for zero friction and positive, long life tension.
They use shielded cable with a gold plated stereo connect for a low current
path to the radio
They have adjustable bearing tension nuts to allow the user to add some drag
to the bearings to slow the unit down if desired, this also allows for good vertical stability
they are built one at a time by me at the bench in the picture.
Our shop is located in the southern end of the Appalachian mountains in northwest
Georgia on top of Sand Mtn. We have the usual tooling in our shop,
milling machines, lathes, drill press, saws, grinders, torches and welders, ect.
We can do just about any machine work that you need......
