By Paul Harden, NA5N

Propagation is a fascinating subject. It affects us all, is discussed at length on QRP-L, but is understood by few ! Just what does that Storm graphic mean ? That's bad isn't it ? Er, or is it good ? What about that K-index - or should we use the A-index ? Just what do those numbers mean anyway ?

Technical Web Site is a real hit with QRPers

Copyright AD5X/ARRLIf you haven't come across it, you'll want to check the website of Phil Salas, AD5X. It's www.ad5x.com of course. Phil's site is frankly not much to look at until you dig deeper! In case you are not aware, Phil (ARCI# 7497) was recently awarded the 2005 Bill Orr, W6SAI, Technical Writing Award. That's because he has had numerous articles in QST over the past few years. When asked about his articles, most folks say that they like'm because they actually feel like they could duplicate what Phil has developed!

Tuesday, 27 September 2005
QRP ARCI Hall of Fame members, N2APB and N2CX, have announced the availability of a new partial kit for PIC-EL experimenters.  This follows several runs of their popular pic-el kit, usually referred to as a "pic-kle".  Partly due to the ongoing popularity of John McDonald's Elmer 160 online course and a growing interest in pic-el applications in the ham community, the AMQrp club will produce a partial kit for expermenters.NJQRP PIC-EL Project

Austin's Regen Receiver
Written by Steve Yates
Wednesday, 29 June 2005
Back in 2002 my then 7 year old son Austin wanted me to help him build a radio. At that time I helped him build a cigar box crystal radio set. He enjoyed that radio but since then he has taken a liking to CW and his simple cigar box set would only receive AM. He wanted a receiver that he could help build yet would receive CW and voice (AM/SSB) and on top of that it had to have a built-in antenna so that he could take it places and/or keep it by his bedside . . .

Half Wave Portable Antenna
Written by Steve Yates
Friday, 15 July 2005
I enjoy taking my QRP gear to the field and operating but it can sometimes be difficult to come up with a decent antenna for such work. I have used many types of antennas but I prefer antennas that can operate efficiently without any connection to the lossy ground or that require an extensive radial system. The type of antenna described here has always performed well for me and is easy to adjust for a good match no matter how you erect it . . .

PIXIE Experiments
Written by David R. Hassall, WA5DJJ
Saturday, 18 June 2005
My PIXIE interest started about two years ago when I was looking for a simple transceiver to be built by my builders group that would give a successful contact among the members and provide an effective tool for exploring the art of building a working radio.  Here I'll outline what I've done with the PIXIE and where you can find out more if you want to build a PIXIE.
