Russ Ruby W7AU (QRP ARCI #13127) was rescued after breaking his leg in the Cascade Mountains, WA. Russ slipped and was injured near Buck Creek Pass on 21 September 2008. He had the presence of mind to set up his tent and change into warm clothing before calling for help on 40m CW using his Elecraft K1 transceiver. His signal was heard 600 miles away in Bozeman, Montana by Bob Williams N7ODM. Details were passed to local authorities but Russ had to spend the night in the wilderness before being evacuated from the site at 10.30am the following day.

A new website to learn and practice Morse telegraphy has been launched - Learn CW OnlineThere are already hundreds of training programs, MP3/CD courses and practice aids available, but LCWO follows a radically different concept: While sticking to well-proven methods for learning and practice, all you need for using LCWO is a web browser! This gives the user the liberty to practice CW wherever an internet connection is available, always retaining the personal settings, scores and statistics. |

Sunday 14 September 2008, 2000Z to 2359Z
If you entered the Digital Sprint please send in a log by 14 October 2008. A good excuse to have another go at PSK31 !
In fact you can use any digital mode except CW. If you have not tried PSK31 before, it really is not difficult. Software is free and it is not essential to build a hardware interface. Take a look at Randy's tutorial on this webpage !

It all started in May of 2007. It was Sunday about noon and FDIM 2007 was about over. We sat down and discussed FDIM 2008. Some of us took about 4 months off, others were busy finding presenters, confirming the hotel requirements and rounding up volunteers. Then close to the end of the year the whole crew went into action. We built an improved registration system for both vendors and participants, rounded up door prizes, finalized logistics and interfaced with the hotel for reservations . . .

Propagation
is a fascinating subject. It affects us all, is discussed at length on
QRP-L, but is understood by few ! Just what does that Storm graphic
mean ? That's bad isn't it ? Er, or is it good ? What about that
K-index - or should we use the A-index ? Just what do those numbers
mean anyway ?
Paul
Harden NA5N is one of those rare individuals who really understands his
subject and has a talent for explaining in a way we can all understand.
He's also a whizz at presentation. This feature is set to become a
classic, full of hints and tips - you will become your local club's
propagation guru !

The first QRP-ARCI Contest Championship ran during the 2007 Contest Season. In this contest the entries from nine of the individual contests sponsored by QRP-ARCI were tallied to give a total standing for all of 2007. To be eligible, an operator needed to enter at least three eligible contests, and their top five finishes would be considered for their QCC Score. |

The Winter 2008 issue of QQ features part one of a great design by Paul Alexander, WB9IPA. Unfortunately the article, entitled A Phasing Type Transceiver for the 60 Meter Band, suffered some kind of technical glitch and a few of the schematics are difficult to read.
High resolution diagrams may be downloaded from the website - the file is a 147KB PDF and further details can be found at the authors own webpage. Non-members can ensure they receive QRP Quarterly by subscribing using the form in the right hand column of the homepage. Back issues of the QRP Quarterly Winter 2008 are available featuring part 1. |

Members of QRP ARCI have a wide range of ham related interests. There are homebrewers, contestors, award hunters . . . well you name it, we probably have a member who does it. We have a section in the QRP Links area where we feature the home pages of QRP ARCI members. If you have a homepage that we can include in the links, please let us know about it. One member who did just that is Jake N0LX. He enjoys operating outdoors and his website contains some stunning photos of his trips. You can get to his website via the Members Homepages section of QRP Links. |
