  • FDIM is an opportunity to show off your favorite QRP project to your peers.
  • FDIM is a great excuse to visit Dayton, Ohio and Hamvention.
  • FDIM was originated for QRPers; is planned by QRPers, attended by QRPers and is about QRP.
  • FDIM is about enjoying a few days with old friends, new acquaintances and having a good time.

Come join in the excitement !   Remember, it's not just about the radio !

Holiday Inn, Fairborn, OH

The FDIM venueThe venue is the Holiday Inn at Fairborn , OH . It's just a few miles from the Dayton Hamvention (which runs concurrently) and is ideally placed for a visit to the National Museum of the USAF .

Holiday Inn room

Of course the hotel is a perfect base for FDIM visitors and special room rates will be available if you book as part of the QRP ARCI group. There is a bar and restaurant in the hotel and several other restaurants within walking distance. A shopping mall and further restaurants can be found just a couple of miles away.

When is it ?

Thursday 15th May 2008 - Sunday 18th May 2008

Registration opens on Wednesday evening (14 May 2008). This is a good time to meet old friends and make new acquaintances. Registration continues early Thursday morning (15 May 2008) and a whole day of seminars kicks off at about 8 a.m.

Visitors are invited to 'Meet The Speakers' on Thursday evening where several tables are available to vendors. On Friday (16 May 2008) most people visit the Dayton Hamvention. The famous Buildathon takes place in the hotel on Friday afternoon (details to follow). Everyone attends the main 'Vendor Night' where you can get close up and personal with QRP (and other) traders. Have a chat, strike a deal and avoid the crush of the Hamvention !

On Saturday (17 May 2008) it's back to the Hamvention, or a visit to the National Museum of the USAF, or a trip to the shopping mall or . . .
Saturday evening is when the optional FDIM Prize Banquet happens. Lots of things happening including raffle prizes, door prizes, Hall Of Fame presentations and some very short speeches - oh, and a massive banquet !

There are no FDIM events on Sunday. A last visit to the Hamvention maybe and get ready to go home.

Throughout the whole four day event spouses organize there own activites - including needlework, shopping and eating !

Why should I go ?

Fun, Friends, Food and - err - Flying Pigs ?

The QRP ARCI 'Four Days In May' is a great opportunity to meet QRPers from around the World. You may already have spoken to them on the air, you will almost certainly have met them on internet email lists.

You will learn a lot at the seminars - the noise you hear is the collective sound of 200 pennies dropping as leading experts in their field deliver fascinating presentations. There is just so much going on ! Buy the latest gizmo from the guy who invented it, chat with the designer of your most recent (failed) project, join in the CW debate in the bar ! The banquet is something else and as for the Flying Pigs, well, they really are something else  . . .
